  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 cup well-shaken buttermilk or kefir
  • 3 or 4 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and sliced 1/4 inch thick
